Recovery is an ongoing, long-term effort. When your primary treatment ends at Burkwood, we guide our clients through the maze of aftercare options, carefully researching and selecting resources that will enhance their recovery. Some of these options may include referrals to halfway houses, sober houses, co-occurring treatments, community support groups, outpatient therapy that includes relapse prevention or dual diagnosis groups, as well as scheduled psychiatric and medical appointments.
With a comprehensive aftercare plan in place, our clients are able to make a smooth transition from primary care to continuing care without any gaps in treatment. On the day our clients graduate from Burkwood Treatment Center, their aftercare plan takes effect immediately. Wherever clients choose to continue their recovery, whether at home, in a halfway house or sober house, or elsewhere, we continue to be a supportive presence, following up to make sure they keep appointments and ensuring they have the information and care they need.
In addition, Burkwood encourages clients to stay in communication with our licensed counselors and staff as they reach various milestones in their recovery. After six months of abstinence, we invite our clients back to speak at Burkwood and share their experiences and words of wisdom with current clients. We have found that this process of “paying it forward” not only provides momentum to those currently working to overcome their addiction but also helps former clients sustain their sobriety. |
