Where is your program located?
We are located at the end of a quiet street near a wood-lined stream and Willow River State Park in Hudson, Wisconsin (just across the river from the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area).

What types of problems/disorders do you treat?
Our caring team of licensed professionals specializes in treating adult men and women (ages 18 and above) with a dual diagnosis of addiction and co-occurring mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety and others.

How much will treatment cost?
Treatment at Burkwood is a highly personal experience, and the associated costs depend upon a number of issues, including (but not necessarily limited to) the specific nature of the problem(s) being treated, the amount of time you will need to remain in treatment, and the presence of any co-occurring disorders.

Our intake advisors will be happy to work with you to develop an accurate picture of what your treatment will cost.

Does your program accept insurance or provide financing options?
Addiction and co-occurring recovery services at Burkwood Treatment Center is covered by most insurance plans, such as UBH/Medica, UCare, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Health Partners, Indian Health Service Funding, Private Pay, County Insurance, State Consolidated Funds, and Rule 25.

Are your staff members licensed?
Yes. Is your program accredited?
Yes. Burkwood Treatment Center is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Does your program treat dual diagnosis patients?
Yes. We specialize in treating men and women with a dual diagnosis of addiction and co-occurring mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety and others.

Do you provide detox services?
No. In order to enter treatment at Burkwood you must currently be free of mood-altering substances

Does Burkwood support AA/NA and similar 12-Step programs?
We accept the philosophy of the 12 Step recovery program, but are not limited to it as the sole means to recovery. Our program will be modified in treatment and scope to maximize our clients’ strengths and to meet their particular needs.

How long will I need to be in treatment?
Determining the ideal length of stay involves an analysis of a number of personal factors, including (but not limited to) the nature and severity of the issues you are struggling with and the presence of any co-occurring disorders.

Our professionals will take all of these issues into consideration as we work with you to create the personalized program that will put you in the best position to pursue long-term recovery.

Will I be permitted to take medication during treatment?

Prescription and over-the-counter medications must be ordered by a physician and are to be stored in the nurse’s station. Medications may not be stored in client rooms, and clients will be responsible for any applicable co-pays.

What types of therapies and programs does Burkwood use?

What is a typical day in treatment like?
A typical day at Burkwood begins with morning meditation and group therapy, followed by afternoon educational lectures and community support group meetings.

Clients participate in individual therapy sessions at least once a week and additional group sessions as needed. In addition to traditional support groups, Burkwood offers specialty treatment groups such as grief group, spirituality group, and other co-occurring lectures and group sessions.

Will my family be involved in my treatment?
Yes. we welcome family members as an integral part of the treatment team. With our years of experience offering help and healing to individuals with dual diagnosis, we have found that healthy relationships are a fundamental building block for lasting sobriety.

Do you offer an aftercare program?
Recovery is an ongoing, long-term effort. When your primary treatment ends at Burkwood, we guide our clients through the maze of aftercare options, carefully researching and selecting resources that will enhance their recovery.

Some of these options may include referrals to halfway houses, sober houses, co-occurring treatments, community support groups, outpatient therapy that includes relapse prevention or dual diagnosis groups, as well as scheduled psychiatric and medical appointments. Can I have visitors?
All Clients are allowed to receive visitors. Visiting for any of your acquaintances (relatives, family and friends) takes place when you are not attending programming, you will receive a Client Handbook with visiting instructions during your admission process at Burkwood.

May I leave the grounds?
Clients have almost 2 beautiful acres to enjoy on Burkwood Property. Leaving the grounds is supervised and is allowed for therapeutic activities, any approved or required appointments, and 1 store run per week for clients to purchase necessities (after a 7 day waiting period).

Do you perform random drug tests?
Yes. You may be tested on a random basis for both alcohol and other drugs. We reserve the right to conduct occasional drug screenings based on suspicious behavior or observations by the staff. The client’s primary counselor will monitor the collection of urine and call our lab for pick-up. The counselor will review the results with the client and make any necessary adjustments in the individualized treatment plan.

How are medications handled and administered?

What will happen to my personal possessions?
You are allowed to have your own possessions and clothing in your assigned bedroom. Burkwood will communicate with you prior to your admission any items that you may or may not bring. There are items such as weapons, cell phones, and DVD players that may potentially interfere with your programming or the safety of others that are not allowed. These items will be on the list communicated to you. However, if you bring an item you may not have you will be asked to send it home or you may store them in your luggage in the basement.

Is smoking permitted?
Smoking is allowed in designated outdoor smoking areas only.

What about coffee?
Caffeinated coffee is provided in the morning and decaffeinated coffee is offered the remainder of the day.

Are cell phones permitted?
Cell phones are not permitted during your stay at Burkwood and you will be required to send them home or store them in your luggage in the basement.

What will be my daily responsibilities?
We ask that clients attend to their personal hygiene and their immediate living area. Clothing is to be hung in closets or put away in dressers, and dirty clothing is to be stored in a plastic bag until laundered. The staff reserves the right to inspect all areas of the house. Clients will also be assigned weekly household duties that are to be completed by 9:00 a.m. on weekdays and 10:00 a.m. on weekends, unless other arrangements have been made with staff. No drinking or drug use is permitted either on or off the premises.

What is included in the fee?
The resident fee includes all charges for the program and services provided through Burkwood. Other expenses such as psychological consultant fees, medical expenses, dental charges, and purchases for personal grooming are the sole responsibility of the client.

Can I bring my car?
Clients are not permitted to bring a private vehicle to Burkwood. 

Can I bring a stereo, radio, or musical instrument?
Radios and small boom boxes are permitted in the rooms during hours that are not bothersome to roommates. Musical instruments without amplifiers are permitted if they are played at a reasonable level that does not affect other clients or neighbors. 

Can I watch television or movies?
Yes. Clients are permitted to watch television and appropriate movies during designated hours. Clients are not allowed to have personal televisions, DVD players, video games, laptops, or computers. 

Can I send and receive mail during treatment?
Yes. Clients may pick up incoming mail from staff, and may be placed in the mailbox outside the nurses stations for daily mailing.
