Wisconsin addiction treatment facility partnering with Optum to serve veterans
HUDSON, Wisconsin (September 18, 2020) – Burkwood Treatment Center is proud to announce that it has been approved to provide care to U.S. military veterans through the VA Community Care Network. The center is able to accept VA-authorized veterans immediately.
The Community Care Network was created in 2018 to provide veterans with greater control over their healthcare. Now, in addition to taking part in treatment at VA facilities, veterans can receive authorization from VA medical staff to access services from providers within the community.
For veterans who reside in Region 2, which includes Wisconsin and 12 nearby states, the list of optional community-based providers now includes Burkwood Treatment Center. Treatment and billing throughout Region 2 are managed by Optum, which was selected by the VA as the third-party administrator for that area.

Burkwood Treatment Center provides personalized residential treatment and outpatient programming for adults of all genders age 18 and older who are struggling with substance use disorders and certain co-occurring mental health concerns. Each person who enters treatment at Burkwood Treatment Center follows a customized course of care that is based upon a thorough assessment of their unique history, needs, and goals.
For veterans who have been experiencing symptoms of co-occurring posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or other effects of untreated trauma, personalized care at Burkwood Treatment Center may include eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. EMDR is a science-based, research-supported therapeutic technique that has proved to be particularly effective at helping people overcome the distressing symptoms of PTSD and other effects of trauma.
