At Burkwood Treatment Center, our team recognizes that recovery is a lifelong journey and residential care is often only the first step on a person’s path. Additionally, we understand that some individuals may not need the intensity of residential care and can instead benefit from outpatient care. For this reason, we are pleased to be able to offer dedicated outpatient programming and aftercare services at our campus in Hudson, Wisconsin, for adults age 18 and older who are struggling with addictions.
Whether you are stepping down from a higher level of care or seeking flexible support to begin your recovery journey, our dedicated clinical team is here to help you build a healthier future.
Outpatient Programming at Our Hudson Rehab Center
We provide outpatient services through multiple programs, including:
- In-person intensive outpatient program (IOP)
- Virtual intensive outpatient program
- General outpatient and aftercare program
- Sober housing for men
Our team can provide you with a thorough preadmission assessment and help you decide which outpatient service will best meet your needs.
Intensive Outpatient Programs
Our intensive outpatient programs offer a higher level of support than you would receive in traditional outpatient therapy. This level of care might be a good fit for you if you can benefit from a more structured outpatient setting but don’t need the round-the-clock monitoring of a residential program.
When you choose one of the IOPs at our rehab center in Hudson, Wisconsin, you will take part in therapy on a set schedule several hours a day, multiple days a week, with the flexibility to return home or to supported housing when the treatment day ends. If you are participating in our virtual IOP, you are not required to attend on-site sessions at any point.
This flexible format gives you the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in therapy to your daily life, with real-time feedback throughout the therapeutic process. This continual feedback can help you start to transition back to your community and regular routine.
Some people step down to our IOP from a higher level of care, while others step up from a traditional outpatient program. You can also directly enter our intensive outpatient programs. Our IOPs are stand-alone programs, so you do not need to have received care at Burkwood Treatment Center in Hudson prior to taking part in any of our outpatient programs.
Identifying your specific needs is an essential part of starting your care at our center near Minneapolis. We take the time to understand the type and level of support that will help you achieve the best outcome possible.
Virtual Intensive Outpatient Programming
Our virtual intensive outpatient program provides structured, evidence-based care for adults who are struggling with addictions. The program is offered entirely online through a secure telehealth platform. This program offers the same quality clinical care you would receive in person but with the flexibility of participating from your own home.
If work schedules, family responsibilities, transportation challenges, or geographic distances make receiving in-person care difficult, our virtual IOP helps remove those barriers so that you can focus on your recovery.
All you need is a smartphone, tablet, or computer with internet access and the ability to connect to a telehealth platform to participate in our virtual IOP.
Our virtual IOP is designed for adults age 18 and older who are struggling with substance use disorders. This program is a good fit for people who:
- Need flexible addiction treatment that fits with their work schedules and allows them to care for their families and manage other responsibilities
- Prefer receiving care from home instead of participating in an on-site program
- Live far from in-person addiction care options
- Have transportation limitations

- Relapse prevention
Recognizing that addiction impacts the entire family unit, we offer family support services so that our clients’ family members have an opportunity to learn how they can best support their loved one in their recovery. Individual family sessions are also available to encourage communication and provide education.

This program is available for individuals who have completed residential care or intensive outpatient programming, or it can be an ideal option for people who have not completed a higher level of care and do not need 24/7 supervision.
Participating in our outpatient program allows clients to fulfill work and family responsibilities while receiving consistent clinical support either in person or virtually. The services offered in this program are intended to help clients maintain progress in their recovery, reinforce their coping skills, and stay connected with professional support. This level of care emphasizes continuity, accountability, and access to ongoing guidance in a nonrestrictive setting.

Services Offered in Our Outpatient & Aftercare Program
To help ensure that clients receive truly comprehensive support, we use several different therapy formats to address the physical, behavioral, and emotional aspects of addiction.
Individual therapy is offered weekly or biweekly and consists of confidential sessions with a primary substance use counselor or dually licensed clinician. These one-on-one sessions provide clients with a private space where they can process their treatment experiences, discuss any challenges or setbacks they’re facing, track their therapeutic progress, and work on developing personalized coping strategies.
Addiction impacts the entire family, so the team that leads our Hudson, Wisconsin, outpatient program believes that the recovery process should include the family members of our clients as well. We offer family group sessions on the third Wednesday of every month. If a client and their family need more targeted support, we also provide individual family sessions on an as-needed or as-requested basis.
Group therapy is a cornerstone of our outpatient program. As part of our aftercare services, clients participate in one two-hour group session each week. These group sessions are both psychoeducation- and process-focused and are led by substance use counselors. These groups not only offer time to work with a professional, but they also give clients a chance to connect with peers and gain additional support that can be crucial to their recovery process. Topics covered in these group sessions may include:
- The disease model of addiction
