Making the decision to get professional help for a substance use disorder can be life-changing. At Burkwood Treatment Center, we understand that every adult who turns to us for help finds recovery in their own unique way. We offer multiple levels of care at our center near Minneapolis so that we can meet you where you are on your journey toward recovery.

Our intensive outpatient program offers a higher level of support than you would receive in traditional outpatient therapy. This level of care might be a good fit for you if you can benefit from a more structured outpatient setting but don’t need the round-the-clock monitoring of a residential program.

When you choose the IOP at Burkwood Treatment Center, you will take part in therapy on a set schedule several hours a day, multiple days a week, with the flexibility to return home or to supported housing when the treatment day ends.

This format gives you the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in therapy to your daily life, with real-time feedback throughout the therapeutic process. This continual feedback can help you start to transition back to your community and regular routine.

Some people step down to our IOP from a higher level of care, while others step up from a traditional outpatient program. You can also directly enter our intensive outpatient program without having completed another level of care.

Identifying your specific needs is an essential part of starting your care at our center near Minneapolis. We take the time to understand the type and level of support that will help you achieve the best outcome possible.

  • Drug-free housing: Living in a sober house can make it more difficult to access harmful substances, which can help prevent relapse.

Care Experience

Learn about the care you’ll receive in the IOP at Burkwood Treatment Center near Minneapolis, MN

Recovery from alcohol use disorder or chemical dependency (sometimes called “addiction” or “reward deficiency syndrome”) is an individual process that differs from person to person. That’s why the care experience in the intensive outpatient program at Burkwood Treatment Center begins with a detailed assessment of your specific needs and recovery goals.

The information we gain from this assessment helps us personalize your care so that you receive support that is tailored specifically for you. However, there are elements of care that are common to all program participants.

Group therapy is a foundational component of the IOP at our center near Minneapolis, providing participants with opportunities to gain new coping skills that will help them maintain their recovery. A certified substance abuse counselor leads group sessions, which take place Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, using treatment modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, person-centered counseling, and the 12 Steps of recovery.

We also offer other types of therapies in our IOP. Depending on whether our team has identified the need for these interventions in your care plan, you may take part in individual or family therapy.

Most adults receive care in the IOP at Burkwood Treatment Center for 16 weeks, but your length of stay will depend on your progress and recovery goals.
