Admissions Process

Burkwood Admissions

We help you through the admissions process

No matter how long a person has struggled with addiction, or how much harm he or she has experienced as a result of this problem, the decision to finally get help is rarely an easy choice.

At Burkwood Treatment Center, we respect the strength and courage of each person who makes the life-affirming decision to enter our program, and we are dedicated to ensuring that each man and woman who heals with us has a positive and productive experience while in our care.

This dedication to superior service starts with our admissions process. We have streamlined this process in order to make it as effective and efficient as possible and to ensure that those who need our services can begin to receive care with minimal delay.

Admissions Criteria

Admissions criteria for Burkwood Treatment Center

The first step in being admitted to Burkwood Treatment Center is confirming that an individual is appropriate for our program. While all admissions decisions are made on an individual basis, prospective participants must meet the following general criteria:

  • Adult men or women, ages 18 or above
  • Have a primary substance use disorder
  • Be medically stable
  • Voluntarily agree to enter treatment

Unfortunately, we are unable to admit individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Pose a high risk of harm to themselves or to others
  • Experiencing hallucinations, delusions, or other symptoms of a psychotic disorder

Starting the Process

Starting the process at Burkwood

Anyone who meets the criteria described in the previous section can begin the admissions process with a simple phone call. This initial call with a friendly and knowledgeable member of our admissions team will accomplish the following:

  • Complete a brief phone interview to determine if Burkwood is the optimal placement according to the individual’s needs
  • Arrange for all necessary records to be forwarded to our center
  • Confirm insurance coverage and/or other financial matters

If at any point in the process it is determined that Burkwood is not the most appropriate placement for a potential participant, we are happy to provide referrals to other centers that may be a better fit.

Beginning Treatment

Beginning treatment at Burkwood

Once a prospective participant has completed the initial intake phone call and all financial issues have been addressed, the admissions and clinical teams will meet to make a final decision about admission. When the prospective participant has been approved, an admissions team member will contact the individual to schedule his or her admission date.

During a person’s first few days at Burkwood, he or she will complete any remaining paperwork, meet with members of our nursing and medical teams to determine all relevant needs, and be oriented to the processes and procedures of our treatment program.
